FHPA Trooper Apprehends A Felon
Tampa unit Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary (FHPA) Sergeant Lou Lawrence was on Limited Scope Patrol (LSP) when he came upon a disabled vehicle on I-75 south of the Cross-town Expressway in Tampa. Sgt. Lawrence observed the driver walking away from the vehicle and went to assist.
The driver appeared to be very nervous which alerted Sgt. Lawrence to perform a routine warrants check. The warrants check revealed that the subject had several outstanding Felony Warrants for his arrest from Escambia County. The driver was taken into custody and a Trooper was called to take over.
After the arrest of the driver, Sgt. Lawrence transported him to Hillsborough County Jail where he now awaits extradition back to Escambia County. Sgt. Lawrence’s alertness and involvement in the FHPA’s LSP program has taken a wanted felon off of Florida’s highways.
The Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary provides thousands of hours of support to the FHP and countless dollars saved to the people of the Sunshine State.
