FHP Troopers who are Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians and other volunteers inspected over 48 car seats for the public to ensure proper installation. The inspections indicated that many of the seats were not installed correctly. This is not a surprise since a recent survey conducted in 2002 by the Florida Department of Transportation found that over 96% of all child safety seats are improperly installed in motor vehicles in Florida. Many of the seats at this CPS Check had to be corrected by technicians to ensure the child passengers’ safety.

All the people who contributed to this important endeavor feel that a real difference was made that day in promoting the use of child safety seats. This event proved to be a highly successful kick off to National Child Passenger Safety Week, which runs from February 8-14, 2004.
