Duty Officers to the Rescue

Duty Officer ChitwoodRecently a call went out for assistance from the Brehon Institute, a Battered Women’s Shelter which provides emergency aid to abused women seeking refuge. A young woman with a six-month-old infant boy needed shelter, food and clothes. The Duty Officers of the Florida Highway Patrol’s Tallahassee Regional Communications Center, touched by the situation, responded with donations of their time and money.

Reaching into their own pockets, enough money was collected to purchase a gift card, and baby formula for the little one. Some staff members and their families took time out of their busy weekend to go out and purchase much needed items, which included diaper bags, baby food, clothes and toys, as well as things for the young mother to better help her provide for her son. The Duty Officers delivered the items to the Brehon Case Worker for immediate use.
