Troopers Teach Teens Safety Facts
Several members of Troop L visited John I. Leonard High School students this past week to remind them of the dangers of drinking and driving and the importance of wearing seat belts.
The local high school held this special safety event during their recent homecoming week to increase traffic safety awareness among their students. In fact, one student attending the event admitted he had recently been issued a citation by one of the troopers there.
Pictured left, Troopers Robert M. Dooley, Ramon Fernandez and Adolfo Torres talk with John I. Leonard High School SADD Club members about the dangers of drinking & driving and right, Trooper Ramon Fernandez has a student “walk the line” during a simulated DUI sobriety test.
Troopers Robert Dooley, Ramon Fernandez, Adolfo Torres and Conya Bassett (the new Occupant Protection Specialist for Troop L) took turns demonstrating seat belt safety using one of FHP’s popular rollover simulators.
The rollover simulator is a very effective tool because it shows students exactly what could happen to them in a crash if they don’t wear their seat belts. They could end up like the dummies that smash around inside the overturned truck, or worse, ejected from the vehicle and then run-over by it. Hundreds of interested students came out to hear what the troopers had to say about being safe on the road!
