Troopers Awarded Cameras from MADD

Beth Gibson, MADD Chapter Secretary, Trooper Nussbaumer, Trooper Harrigill, and Ms. Sheila Cagle, MADD Chapter President The Emerald Coast Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Chapter recently donated two new in-car video cameras, complete with radar interface, to two FHP troopers.

Shown in the photo are ( L to R) Ms. Beth Gibson, MADD Chapter Secretary, Trooper Chris Nussbaumer, Trooper Robert Harrigill, and Ms. Sheila Cagle, MADD Chapter President.

Trooper Harrigill and Trooper Nussbaumer, both assigned to Troop A-Pensacola, were selected to receive the cameras because of their extra efforts in removing impaired drivers from local roadways. In April 2002, Trooper Harrigill became the victim of an impaired driver as his patrol car was struck from behind. The late night crash killed the impaired driver and left Trooper Harrigill in critical condition. Trooper Nussbaumer has arrested 36 impaired drivers thus far in 2003.

Troopers Nussbaumer & HarrigillMADD’s generous donation of the cameras is part of the Emerald Coast Chapter’s ongoing efforts to help law enforcement officers identify and arrest impaired drivers, thereby reducing the number of injuries and deaths associated with motor vehicle crashes involving alcohol and other drugs. The Emerald Coast Chapter of MADD works closely with local law enforcement agencies in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties as they continue their mission to protect citizens and visitors to Northwest Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol thanks the members of MADD for their continued dedication and assistance in helping us remove impaired drivers from Florida’s roadways!
