Troop B Firearms Training
FHP Troop B recently held Semi-Annual Firearms Qualification at the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Department Firearms Range in Trenton, Florida. Troop personnel qualified with the 40-caliber semi-automatic handguns during daylight and low-light conditions.

Trooper Leon Gill, Jr., Troop B Training Coordinator, conducted Shotgun Familiarization Training while at the range. Troopers had to drive their assigned patrol cars onto the firearms range and park in a “Felony Traffic Stop” orientation to the silhouette targets posted down-range. Troopers then had to exit their vehicles as though conducting a traffic stop, then, when prompted, rush back to their vehicles, extract their shotguns, find cover behind their driver’s door and fire at the silhouette targets down-range. The training was intense in that it required repeating this procedure for approximately thirty times.
