Teamwork Removes Violent Suspect From Road
On March 22, 2003, a *FHP call was received at the Tallahassee Regional Communications Center about a highway violence incident on Interstate 10 in Jackson County. The caller reported that another motorist had pointed a shotgun at his family. The caller gave the location and a description of the suspect’s vehicle, along with the tag number.
Corporal Wayne Peterson located the suspect’s vehicle, and with the assistance of Sergeant Robert Ifft, conducted a felony stop on the vehicle. Trooper Gary Daniels arrived on the scene moments later for backup. The victims stopped at the scene and identified the suspect as the one who had threatened them with the shotgun.
The troopers found the shotgun used in the assault located on the seat of the vehicle, and the suspect was placed under arrest. A subsequent inventory of the vehicle revealed a concealed machete under the driver’s seat, some heroin and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was transported to the Jackson County Jail and charged with aggravated assault, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
These troopers demonstrated teamwork and dedication to public safety, and are commended for their excellent police work.
