Team Work Yields Armed Robbery Arrest
On Wednesday, January 8, 2003, the Florida Highway Patrol arrested a woman for robberies she had committed at the E93, E99 & E109 toll plazas (Florida Turnpike) on December 27 & 28, 2002. Thanks to the quick and solid investigative teamwork of FHP members, Trooper Kevin Kane, Trooper Ernest Burrs, Corporal Anthony Caserta, Lt. Michael Sheehan, Lt. Ernest Wessels, and Lt. Frank Howell, an armed robbery suspect was apprehended and arrested.
On December 27, Trooper Kevin Kane responded to the West Palm Beach toll plaza to a report of an attempted armed robbery. The next day, Trooper Ernest Burrs responded to the Lake Worth toll plaza to a report of an armed robbery. Later the same day, Trooper Burrs responded to another armed robbery report at the Palm Beach Gardens toll plaza. After interviewing the tollbooth personnel who had been robbed, troopers determined that the suspect was a white female driving a Chevrolet Lumina.
On January 6, Corporal Anthony Caserta, Jr., informed Lt. Frank Howell that he had previously stopped the suspect for driving on an expired tag, and arrested her for driving with a suspended license. The woman’s vehicle was then identified as matching the description of the vehicle involved in the series of tollbooth robberies.
The suspect was positively identified by the robbery victims in a photographic lineup. Lt. Ernest Wessels located the suspect’s 1996 Chevrolet Lumina at her residence, where she was subsequently arrested by Lt. Frank Howell on two counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery.
