Speed Stop Leads to Cocaine Bust

Cocaine in air duct in dashboard of vehicle.Five kilograms of cocaineOn May 2, 2003, while working an intensified traffic enforcement detail in Escambia County, Trooper Jimmie Davis stopped a 1995 Ford SUV for unlawful speed and following too closely. Trooper Davis, observing that the driver was nervous and unable to produce any auto insurance information, called Trooper Jason Lemery for backup.

When Trooper Lemery arrived, Trooper Davis walked K-9 Officer York around the suspect’s vehicle. York alerted to the driver’s side door. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, the troopers found five kilograms of cocaine concealed in the air duct in the vehicle’s dashboard. The driver was immediately arrested on drug possession charges thanks to the diligent efforts of Troopers Davis and Lemery.
