Laptop Capabilities Solve Crimes!

Trooper DetweilerTrooper Brett Detweiler, Troop G – Ocala, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, found out just how important FHP’s new laptop computer can be. Recently, Trooper Detweiler was dispatched to a hit & run traffic crash that turned out to be an aggravated battery case.

The victims observed the suspect and gave deputies the tag number on the hit & run vehicle. Trooper Detweiler ran a check of the tag registration on his laptop computer, but the information came back on a different vehicle. He also ran a check of the driver license of the individual that came back on the tag through the driver license system and obtained a photo of the suspect. Witnesses at the scene identified the person from the photo as the one who left the scene and stole some beer from a convenience store. This information was relayed to the Marion County deputy, who tracked down the suspect and made an arrest. This new piece of technology has been a tremendous asset to the Florida Highway Patrol and FHP troopers to provide better service to the public.
