Lakeland Drug Bust
Recently, Trooper Ray Pastrana initiated a traffic stop on a 1996 Chevy Lumina for traffic violations. The driver of the vehicle failed to immediately stop. Trooper Jeff Perkins arrived on scene as back up. Trooper Pastrana identified the driver of the vehicle as Charles Antonio Dennard by his Florida driver’s license.
Mr. Dennard appeared very nervous, and when a consent to search his vehicle was requested by Trooper Pastrana, the driver declined the consent. When Trooper Perkins walked K-9 Officer, Ciro, around Mr. Dennard’s vehicle, Ciro alerted to the presence of drugs. Mr. Dennard was asked to have a seat in Trooper Pastrana’s patrol car while his vehicle was searched.
A search of the vehicle revealed one thousand Hydrocodone tablets, a ten-gram bag of marijuana, and a paper bag that contained over ten thousand dollars in U.S. currency. A plastic bag with twelve grams of powder cocaine and a zip-lock bag with approximately one-gram of marijuana was also discovered in the back seat of Trooper Pastana’s patrol car, placed there by Mr. Dennard.
The driver was arrested and charged with trafficking in Hydrocodone, possession of Hydrocodone with intent to sell/distribute, possession of Hydrocodone, possession of powder cocaine, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Lakeland, Polk County Jail Booking facility.
