Improper Tag Leads to Drug Charges
On March 6, 2003, on Interstate 10 in Pensacola, Trooper Todd Carter stopped a 1983 Toyota for improper display of a tag. The driver was found to be in further violation by driving while his license was revoked.

After arresting the driver, Trooper Carter proceeded to conduct an inventory search of the vehicle prior to it being towed. During the inventory search, Trooper Carter located approximately two pounds of marijuana in a shopping bag.
The driver was subsequently booked into the Escambia County Jail on charges of Improper Display of License Tag, Driving While License Suspended, Possession of Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia–all from a routine stop for an improper tag!
