April 9th, 2003, marked the 20th Anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which is held each year in Tallahassee to raise money to fund the transportation costs to the Summer Games for Special Olympic athletes.

This year, runners began the race at the Publix Supermarket on the corner of Monroe & Tharpe Streets, then stopped for a brief rest on the steps of the old Capitol downtown to listen to some encouraging words from Attorney General Charlie Crist and Lt. Governor Toni Jennings before finishing the race at Myers Park.
The Florida Highway Patrol’s 103rd Basic Recruit Class led the way for over 100 law enforcement officers who donated their time and money for this worthy cause.
