Troopers seize 30 pounds of Marijuana in Collier County

Trooper Grider and Sergeant HintonOn July 29, 2002, Sergeant Daniel Hinton stopped a 1998 Chevy Z71 pickup for failure to stop at a traffic signal on State Road 29 at State Road 82 in Collier County. As Sergeant Hinton made contact with the driver at the vehicle, he detected an overwhelming odor of pine tree air freshener and marijuana.

The driver and passenger subsequently gave conflicting trip itineraries. Sergeant Hinton utilized K9 “Bishop” to conduct an exterior drug sniff of the vehicle. Upon the alert of K9 “Bishop” a search of the vehicle revealed 3 bundles of marijuana, totaling 30 pounds, behind the rear seat. Trooper Michael Grider assisted Sergeant Hinton with the arrest and seizure.
