Regional Communications Center opens in Jacksonville
The Jacksonville Regional Communications Center began operations on Thursday, September 26, 2002. All FHP radio communications moved out of the Jacksonville FHP station on Normandy Blvd. into the new center located on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Regional Headquarters complex downtown on Jefferson Street.
Out with the old! Shown in the photo on the left are Duty Officers Mel Farmer and Ronald Cooper dispatching from the old communications room for the last time.
In with the new! The photo on the right shows Duty Officer Sherilyn Nantz dispatching for the first time in the new communications center as Lt. Jackie Freeman, Shift Commander, and Captain Keith Gaston (on phone) work in the background.
FHP troopers and other state law enforcement officers in 18 Northeast Florida counties will be dispatched from the Jacksonville Regional Communications Center.
