And the winner is… Captain Steve Williams!

Capt. WilliamsCaptain Steve Williams of the Florida Highway Patrol has been selected among the top two winners statewide, out of a total of 835 nominees, for the Davis Productivity Award. Captain Williams, Troop D – Orlando, used his self-taught computer skills to design a traffic homicide investigation tracking system for statewide use. Contributing 260 hours of his own time, it is estimated that Williams saved the state at least $300,000 in potential consultant fees. For his innovation and exemplary efforts above and beyond the call of duty, Captain Williams will be awarded $2000 cash and a commemorative plaque at a special awards ceremony in Orlando on December 4, 2001.

This year’s cash awards, plaques, certificates, and other public recognition are generously funded, in part, by the Davis Family of Winn-Dixie Stores, and sponsored by Florida TaxWatch and The Florida Council of 100, chaired by Lt. Governor Frank Brogan.

Since 1989, the Davis Productivity Awards have recognized and rewarded more than 5,000 state employees, work units, and agencies for their enterprise and productivity that has collectively resulted in 3.4 billion dollars of added value for Florida taxpayers. An additional $495 million was produced by this year’s winners.

Congratulations Steve!
