Four Troopers Earn Their Masters

Graduating Troopers display diplomasOn December 15, 2001, Captain Jeffrey L. Succi, Corporal David M. Vincent, Corporal Mark A. Weeks and Trooper William C. Kinghorn received their Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Florida.

The University of Central Florida started a cohort program in Ocala for area law enforcement personnel at our request. There were in excess of 40 students that signed up for the Master’s program that was held at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Training Room. After a year and a half, the cohort group together graduated.

The Florida Highway Patrol has encouraged its members to seek higher education. Efforts were made to modify shifts and/or days off to allow the Ocala members time to attend college. We attended school continuously in order to attain the 30-hours needed to complete the program.

There were many different opportunities afforded us by the university that included weeklong classes in Orlando and a three-week trip to Russia. Web based classes were also available, all in an effort to meet the needs of the students.

Including the four members that graduated, the Ocala District now has 7 sworn members with their Master’s degree, 5 sworn members with their four-year degree, 4 sworn members with their 2-year degree, 6 sworn members with some college and only 4 sworn members with no college.

After the graduation ceremony the last comment that was heard was “let’s start the Doctoral program”. Four doctors in Ocala? Maybe!
