CALEA Begins their Assessment of FHP

FHP Captain Mechlin, Lieutenant Russo, Retired Assistant Director of the U.S. Marshals Service, Gil Kleinknecht, Lieutenant Virginia Fogt, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Chief Jay Leffert, Port St. Joe Police Department, Major John Leonard, Connecticut State Police, and Colonel Knight.A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), today met with Colonel Chris Knight as they began their examination of the Patrol’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services.

The Florida Highway Patrol was originally accredited in November of 1996, after proving that it complied with approximately 350 standards. This on-site inspection will confirm the Patrol’s continued compliance with the applicable standards, and confirm that the FHP is among the best qualifiedand trained law enforcement agencies in the country. Once the CALEA assessors complete their review of the agency, they report back to the full Commission, which will then decide if the agency is to maintain their accredited status.
