Subject: Operational Challenge with Uniface 8 Upgrade

Advisory Date: 04/21/2005 Implementation Date: Immediately

Advisory Number: T05-08

Since the Uniface 8 upgrade, which was completed the last weekend of February, the department has become aware of an issue that could present an operational challenge for your offices. The issue is in the area of FRVIS where a user defines the physical printers that a particular workstation will use.

During the initial setup of a workstation, the main user of that workstation must define what physical printers that workstation will use, which is known as "logical to physical" definitions. With Uniface 8, before a new user can work at that same workstation, they must also define the physical printers that will be used instead of being able to inherit the definitions of the primary user. This feature could cause an operational challenge if users frequently move from workstation to workstation. Basically, the "logical to physical" definition must be completed for a user at every workstation he/she will use. Fortunately, the user only has to perform the "logical to physical" definitions once at each workstation and not every time that he/she uses to that workstation.

The DMV Field Support Help Desk is knowledgeable on how to create the "logical to physical" definitions. If your offices are experiencing problems of this nature, the Help Desk is available to assist you. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact your DMV Field Support Help Desk Representative.
