Subject: Change in the Manufacture of Personalized License Plates

Advisory Date: 1/30/03

Implementation Date: Immediately

Advisory Number: R03-01

Over the past several months there has been some confusion as to how to enter a personalized license plate configuration during the reservation transaction, which has caused personalized license plates to be manufactured incorrectly. To eliminate confusion and prevent incorrect manufacturing of personalized license plates, a new business rule will be implemented.

Effective March 1, 2003, PRIDE will manufacture personalized license plates "as seen" on the reservation screen and printed on the personalized license plate order. The space where a character is entered will be exactly where the configuration is embossed on the license plate. Currently, the Application For Personalized License Plate, form HSMV 83043, accommodates the manufacture of personalized license plate configurations based on how the alpha and numeric characters, hyphens and spaces are completed on the graphics. Personalized configurations with an odd number of characters (i.e. "ABC") will no longer be centered according to the license plate, but rather be embossed in the designated spaces that are actually located on the license plate.

In the interim (between now and February 28, 2003), license plates will be manufactured with the characters centered by starting the requested configuration to the left in the first space with asterisk after the configuration. For example, ABC******* will be interpreted to be centered. If the license plate is to be truly manufactured "left justified," you need to notify the Inventory Control Unit by fax or by telephone call. All other entries will be manufactured as seen.

Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact the Inventory Control Unit at (850) 921-7777 or SUNCOM 291-7777.
