The Florida Highway Patrol Announces New Troop C Major

~ Pensacola Captain promoted to Major ~

TALLAHASSEE – Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Director Colonel Gene Spaulding promoted John L. Gourley to Major, effective October 30, 2015. Major Gourley is assigned to lead field operations for Troop C in the Tampa area. Troop C jurisdiction covers over 5,500 square miles of the Sunshine State, encompassing seven counties: Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk, Pinellas and Sumter. Troop C is home to the University of South Florida, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Busch Gardens, the Gasparilla Parade as well as the State Fair.

“Major Gourley has proven himself to be a progressive leader,” said Col. Gene Spaulding. “He brings a wealth of knowledge to the troop and will add tremendous value to the executive leadership team of the Florida Highway Patrol.”

Major John L. Gourley has been a certified police officer since 1988 and has worked in several different capacities as a law enforcement officer throughout his almost 27 year career. He joined the Florida Highway Patrol in 2001 and was a member of the 100th Recruit Class earning the Executive Director’s Award and the Robert B. Raske Marksmanship Award.
