TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, the Florida Highway Patrol graduated 53 new troopers from FHP’s Training Academy. The graduates join the more than 1,800 troopers who patrol the state’s roads each day to provide protection and assistance to Florida residents and visitors.
“Today, we are excited to welcome fifty-three new troopers to the Florida Highway Patrol family,” said Colonel David H. Brierton, Director of the Florida Highway Patrol. “This new generation of troopers will help carry on the rich history and traditions that exist within the FHP and will help ensure that our dedication to public safety stays strong as we continue into the future.”
Members of the 129th Basic Recruit Class went through twenty-five weeks of intense physical training and academic study covering topics such as human relations, law, firearms, defensive tactics, vehicle operations and first aid. During their time at the academy, the members of the 129th assisted at Pyramid Inc., an organization dedicated to helping those with developmental disabilities and also donated blood on multiple occasions.
FHP honored new Trooper Kelsey Wilson of the 129th with the Executive Director’s award for achieving the highest grade point average at the academy. The Patrol presented the Director’s Award to new Trooper Andrew Pupo of the 129th for demonstrating extraordinary courtesy and dedication during the 25 weeks of training.
