Tallahassee – To provide more service choices for Lee County residents, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is pleased to announce a change in office hours.

Beginning on Monday, July 12, the Cape Coral driver license office will be open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. The Fort Myers driver license office will continue to operate Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. This change will give area residents access to driver license services in Lee County five days a week.

Tips to Shorten Your Visit to a Driver License Office

Skip the office visit altogether! Renewals and changes of address can be made over the phone by calling 1-866-GO RENEW or on the Internet by visiting at www.gorenew.com.

Renew early! Renewals can be done 18 months before the license expiration date.

Avoid the busiest days of the week. The first and last days of the week are generally the busiest. Other busy times include the days before and after a holiday, the weeks before and after school starts, and the month of January.

Avoid the lunch hour. Many people arrive at this time. Staffing is also limited.

Be prepared. Bringing all necessary documents can help avoid delays. New residents generally must provide an original certified birth certificate, a Social Security card, and a driver license from another jurisdiction. Non-citizens must also provide a passport and immigration documents. Visit www.flhsmv.gov for a complete list of required documentation.
