PRELIMINARY FATALITY REPORT FOR
CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY, 2006
The following is a synopsis of the fatality experience during the 72-hour Christmas holiday period, which began at 00:01 hours, Saturday, December 23rd, 2006, and ended at midnight, Monday, December 25th, 2006.
The statistical information provided below represents preliminary figures and covers only those crashes investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The preliminary traffic fatality total stands at 13.
- The 13 deaths occurred in 8 separate traffic crashes.
- 10 fatalities (or 77%) occurred during the hours of darkness.
- None of the fatal traffic crashes have been classified as not alcohol-related. All are still listed as pending.
- Of the 13 deaths, 1 (or 8%) was a pedestrian; and 2 (or 15%) were motorcyclists.
- 1 motorcyclist (or 50 %) was known to be wearing a helmet.
- 60% of those killed in the 6 vehicles normally equipped with safety belts were not wearing their belts.
