Fighting Road Rage
Road rage is a hot topic here in Central Florida, in the wake of two violent incidents in the past week.
This past February, a bout of road rage turned deadly on Interstate 4 following the Daytona 500.
We're in the middle of another race weekend at Daytona. State troopers say they need your help to make the roads safer. If you see aggressive drivers, you’re asked to call *FHP or 911.
Last month, FHP received more than 1,000 calls about aggressive drivers.
"If you encounter a person like that on the road that's being aggressive like that, we would say try to put some distance between them,” said Lt. Channing Taylor. Don't egg them on. Don't gesture them, or give them any attention."
FHP also recommends switching lanes and allowing an aggressive driver to pass you. If that driver follows you, FHP says keep driving until you reach a safe location with lots of people.
Officials say an aggressive driver is less likely to confront you if there are lots of witnesses.
