Dangerous drivers on I-4 targeted
Those sheriff's deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers you may have seen on Interstate 4 Wednesday morning were engaged in a traffic safety campaign targeting unsafe drivers, authorities said.
Seven Volusia County sheriff's deputies were part of the "4 Days on I-4" campaign, along with several FHP troopers, sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson said.
The campaign, which runs through Friday, is a joint effort involving every agency that patrols the I-4 corridor from Tampa to Daytona Beach, FHP Sgt. Jorge Delahoz said.
In addition to aggressive drivers and speeders, officers in marked and unmarked cruisers also are on the lookout for drivers who are following too closely, making improper lane changes, not wearing seat belts or are impaired or drunk, Delahoz said.
"We're trying to send a message to make people think about how they're driving," he said.
