FHP To Begin July 4th Crackdown
As we get ready to celebrate the 4th of July with picnics, cook outs, fireworks and fun, the Florida Highway Patrol is asking everyone to remember to drive responsibly and use designated drivers if you plan on having a couple of drinks.
This year the FHP will begin its July 4th holiday crackdown on the highways will be 2:01 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, and end at midnight, Sunday, July 8th.
FHP personnel normally assigned to administrative duties in the office will be assisting regular troopers by patrolling interstates and other major state roads throughout the six-day holiday period.
During last year's 120-hour 4th of July holiday, 48 persons were killed in traffic crashes in Florida. Of those who died, nearly 60-percent weren't wearing seat belts. Also, 55% of the fatal traffic crashes were alcohol-related.
This year, troopers will be concentrating their enforcement efforts on impaired, speeding and aggressive drivers, and those who fail to buckle up or properly restrain their child passengers.
