I-95 speed warning signs unveiled
Signs along Interstate 95 were unveiled today in 33 locations, warning motorists about an extra $50 fine if they’re caught speeding between State Road 528 and the Volusia County line.
The extra fine goes into effect May 1, but the Florida Highway Patrol wants people to be aware of the penalty in advance. Troopers will educate and warn motorists about the increased penalty along the 31-mile stretch.
The three-year pilot program punishes speeders in zones where there has been an increase in accidents.
Stretches of I-95 in Duval and Palm Beach counties are also affected by the enhanced penalties.
Half the fines will pay for Medicaid payments to nursing homes for brain and spinal cord injuries. The other half will be used to support certified trauma centers in Brevard, Duval and Palm Beach counties.
