FHP on Aggressive Driving
The Florida Highway Patrol is cracking down on aggressive drivers. This is in response to a study done by the Florida Department of Highway Safety that ranked Alachua Country 21st for number of aggressive driving incidents.
Over 1500 accidents statewide were attributed to aggressive driving in 2005. In an effort to send a clear message to motorists that Aggressive driving patterns will not be tolerated, the FHP is executing Project Safe Ride through the night tonight and Lt. Mike Burroughs says the Highway Patrol is pulling out all the stops to catch aggressive drivers.
Lt. Burroughs believes many accidents could be avoided if people simply plan their trips more carefully. He adds the coming spring break season will cause more congestion on Florida Highways and will in turn lead to more aggressive driving. He says the Highway patrol residents and visitors to the state know aggressive drivers will be punished with fines up to a thousand dollars.
