Drivers Licenses' Linked To Contact Phone Numbers
Police able to notify relatives quicker and faster in case of emergencies
The state of Florida has made it easier for police to find relatives of accident victims on Florida’s roads and highways.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has started a new State Emergency Database that link contact phone numbers to drivers’ licenses.
Florida drivers simply sign up through the state website in order to have phone numbers added to their driver’s license information so relatives can be quickly notified in an emergency.
So far, about 13,000 Florida residents have already registered, according to Maj. Ernesto Duarte, spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol in Tallahassee.
The program allows any police officer that runs a driver’s license to quickly get emergency contacts for that person, including out-of-state relatives.
If you’d like to register, click here for The Florida Dept. of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles website.
Florida Highway Patrol officials say because the information is stored in a law enforcement database, it will be kept private but can be accessed by law enforcement officers in other states if an emergency takes place while traveling.
