Rules Of The Road
Florida Highway Patrol responded to several crashes on the slick roads. They say not all the blame can go to Mother Nature.
They say people need to turn on their headlights whenever it starts raining. that's actually part of Florida law and automatic daytime driving lights don't count because your tail-lights need to be on, too.
Troopers say people often drive with the hazard lights on during heavy rain but that can actually cause more harm than good.
Florida Highway Patrol trooper Kim Miller said, "What happens is you get someone with hazards on and then someone comes up behind them. That person thinks they're stopping, changes lanes, and then there's a pileup."
Troopers also say you should be checking your tires. If your tires are too worn it's more likely you'll hydroplane on slippery streets.
