Why are mini bikes overtaking streets?
• Q: Having lived in Biscayne Gardens on 150th Street for more than four years, I'm distressed by young hooligans riding souped-up, loud mini bikes on public streets. After many calls to Miami-Dade Police, a friend was recently told by an officer, 'It's a toy;' they don't need a license.''
Can Action Line tell me what Florida law says about this?

• A: ''It's simple,'' said Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Pat Santangelo. ``According to Florida law, they're not allowed anyplace, except private property.''
That means mini bikes aren't supposed to be driven on streets, sidewalks or in any public place; drivers can be ticketed. Underage riders can also get a ticket for driving without a license.
