FHP Promises Zero-Tolerance Enforcement For 4th
(CBS4 News) TALLAHASSEE Does it seem like you see a Florida state trooper every time you look as you travel state highways this holiday weekend? That may be an exaggeration, but it’s the impression troopers want to leave as they try to keep drivers from dying on highways over the 4th of July.
The Florida Highway Patrol is urging Floridians to use caution on the highways this extended Fourth of July holiday travel period.
The agency has all available personnel assigned to traffic patrols.
FHP officials say they won’t be given drivers a break this holiday, using zero tolerance policy in traffic enforcement. In other words, if you're caught committing a traffic violation you're going to get a ticket.
That zero tolerance policy will especially apply to those drinking and driving.
Troopers, along with police across South Florida, will be out in force through Wednesday night and will conduct checkpoints to catch people who might be drinking and driving during the Fourth.
The FHP says 31 people were killed during the July 4 weekend last year.
