Driver in stolen car flees after accident in Lantana

It was a hit-and-run in reverse: The hitter stayed; the hittee ran.

When Florida Highway Patrol troopers caught him, they found out why. The 1994 Honda he was driving was stolen. It had been taken from the 400 block of Palm Avenue in Lantana. The early-morning accident on Interstate I-95 came before the theft had been reported.

FHP troopers were stopping cars for speeding on I-95 early Saturday when they saw a fender bender near the Lantana Road exit. But instead of pulling over, the man who got hit fled from the scene and later dumped his car near a Dunkin' Donuts, FHP shift lieutenant John Stewart said.

FHP K-9 units found the man a short time later.

Troopers did not identify the thief.
