SR 520 reopens after 2-hour closure

Florida Highway Patrol has announced the reopening of State Road 520 in Brevard and Orange Counties this morning at about 7:45.

The stretch between Nova Road (also known as State Road 532) and State Road 524 was shut down early this morning for nearly two hours due to smoky conditions.

Major roadways in Brevard have been closed off before daybreak in recent weeks due to lingering smoke from brush fires that have flared up in both north and south extremes of the county.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers have routinely scanned roads for visibility to avoid scenarios like the one occurring last Friday when a 26-car pile-up occurred early in the morning on the Beachline (State Road 528).

A Kissimmee woman died in that incident.
