Disguised Troopers Cracking Down On Speeders
Troopers Are Disguised As Construction Workers
Drivers beware: If you see construction workers on the side of the road, you’d better slow down, they might be cops ready and willing to write you a ticket.
It’s all part of a new detail, “Operation Hard Hat”, launched by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers are disguised as construction workers in an effort to promote work zone safety.
The goal of Operation Hard Hat is to promote safe driving habits through work zones and reduce speeds and aggressive driving.
“Operation Hard Hat” is operating in conjunction with “National Work Zone Awareness Week”.
This year's campaign started Monday and will conclude Sunday, April 9, 2006.
The Florida Highway Patrol has recognized that work zone safety is a growing roadway safety concern for the motoring public and the construction crews who work daily on the various roadway projects improving Florida's transportation network.
In 2004, there were 1,068 work zone fatalities across the nation; during the same period in Florida, 130 people were killed in a work zone area traffic crashes.
"The Florida Highway Patrol continues to work in cooperation with the Florida Department of Transportation to make working and driving in Florida's work zones safer than ever before", said FHP Director Colonel Chris Knight
