More than 3,500 killed on Florida’s roads last year
Florida roads are deadlier than ever.
The latest figures show more than 3,500 people died last year in traffic accidents in Florida. That's more than the number killed in the September 11th attacks.
In response, the state is launching a new safety campaign aimed at making the roads safer.
Troopers will focus on speeders because they say 30 percent of all traffic deaths are caused by speeding.
“Over 3,500 traffic fatalities alone in the State of Florida and it's just way too high,” said Col. Chris Knight of the Florida Highway Patrol. “So it's all about driving behavior. We ask people to take responsibility for the way they operate their motor vehicle.”
More than 200 extra troopers will be out over Friday and Saturday watching for speeders.
