Suspicious Package Causes Scare At FHP Headquarters

Bomb squad members were called to Florida Highway Patrol headquarters in Orange County, Fla., Tuesday night after a trooper spotted a suspicious package in the parking lot, according to Local 6 News.

Investigators said a trooper was walking out to her car and noticed the strange package sitting in the parking lot of FHP headquarters located on Semoran Boulevard.

After some inspection, FHP called the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

"We thought the box was in a placed position rather than falling out or dropped on its side," FHP Trooper Kim Miller said. "So, for us, we were concerned as everybody is nowadays to make sure everybody is safe."

A robot examined the package and then the bomb squad detonated it.

"As far as I know, there was no device found inside the package," Orange County sheriff's Commander Rick Luckey said. "I don't know exactly what was located but there was no device found."

FHP officials closed a portion of the parking lot where the package was found but no one was evacuated.

The Florida Highway Patrol said they have never had a threat at one of their headquarters and now plan to monitor the parking lots more closely, Local 6 News reported.
