Limo ride to pick up brother from prison goes bust for siblings

They should have heeded the no-smoking rule.

Hollywood siblings, on their way to pick up their brother in Miami Wednesday morning, ignored their limousine driver's order to stop smoking, said Lt. Pat Santangelo, with the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver responded to their cursing -- and the smell of marijuana wafting from the back -- by calling police, Santangelo said.

A trooper who happened to be nearby on the Palmetto Expressway pulled to the side of the road and waited.

The limo driver pulled in front of the patrol car and parked. Santangelo said the passengers didn't notice until the trooper opened their door.

"The brother, he starts trying to hide the marijuana in a suitcase," Santangelo said. "She starts swallowing pills, OxyContin and another type of pill."

Siblings Richard Harris, 53, and Janet Harris, 43, were arrested on drug charges.

It's unclear if their brother, Stanley, ever got picked up, Santangelo said. He had been waiting for a ride after his release from the Everglades Correctional Institution.

On drug charges.
