State, local cops watching drivers
The holiday patrols "will implement zero-tolerance enforcement."
The Florida Highway Patrol and Clay County Sheriff's traffic and patrol units are on high alert this weekend and next, paying special attention to those driving aggressively or while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The officers also will watch for proper seat belt and car seat use and for drivers who are speeding.
The FHP warns pedestrians and bicyclists to be cautious while near traffic.
"FHP will implement zero-tolerance enforcement strategies" for those violating the law, Col. Chris Knight, director of the FHP, said Thursday.
The increased Christmas monitoring began just after midnight this morning and continues until midnight Monday.
New Year's holiday patrols will be from the early-morning hours of Dec. 30 through midnight on Jan. 1.
The FHP urges motorists to call law enforcement to report impaired, aggressive or dangerous drivers. Callers can remain anonymous.
To reach the highway patrol by cell phone for emergencies or to make a report, dial *347 (*FHP ).
Local officials can be reached through 911 or at 264-6512.
