FHP plans crash-reduction efforts
The Memorial Day weekend, beginning Friday, is one of the deadliest on Florida's roads.
This year, the Florida Highway Patrol will participate in three operations to help prevent injuries and save lives.
Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) involves all 50 states, and All-American Buckle Up Week and Click It or Ticket campaigns are continuing.
Last year, 40 people were killed during Memorial Day weekend in 35 fatal crashes, with 40 percent being alcohol-related in Florida.
In 83 percent of those wrecks, people were not wearing seat belts.
All FHP troopers normally assigned to administrative duties will be on patrol during the four-day holiday.
Drivers are asked to use their cell phones and dial *347 (FHP) to report aggressive drivers.
Emergency calls should go to 911.
