The following is a synopsis of the fatality experience during the Labor Day Holiday period which began at 12:01 a.m., Friday, September 2, 2005, and ended at midnight, Monday, September 5, 2005.

During this time period, there were 44 people killed in 39 fatal traffic crashes.

10 (23%) of the people killed were under 21 years of age;
24 (55%) of the people killed were drivers;
11 (25%) of the people killed were passengers;
9 (20%) of the people killed were pedestrians;
0 (0%) of the people killed was a bicyclist;
8 (40%) of the 20 drivers and passengers killed in vehicles normally equipped with safety belts were not using their belts;
23 (52%) of the traffic deaths were alcohol-related;
19 (49%) of the fatal traffic crashes were alcohol-related;
20 (51%) of the fatal traffic crashes occurred after dark;
23 (59%) of the fatal traffic crashes occurred during clear weather;
29 (74%) of the fatal traffic crashes occurred on straight and level highways; and
21 (54%) of the fatal traffic crashes occurred on state roads.
