Lt. Colonel Ken Howes
Florida Highway Patrol
For Release March 1, 2004:
TALLAHASSEE: The Florida Highway Patrol has released enforcement totals from Operation Safe Ride, a 48-hour statewide aggressive driving enforcement operation that was conducted February 26-27, 2004. The campaign was launched due to a growing concern over aggressive drivers and incidents of road rage throughout Florida. Operation Safe Ride was conducted in all ten FHP field troops throughout the state.
Enforcement totals from the 2-day campaign included the following:
Aggressive drivers cited
Lane change violations
Reckless driving charges
Following too closely
During the two-day enforcement detail, troopers focused their enforcement efforts on every Interstate, Florida’s Turnpike, and other major state roads in Florida where aggressive driving is prevalent.
The Patrol is planning to deploy Operation Safe Ride throughout the rest of the year with a different selective enforcement theme scheduled each time, depending on specific enforcement needs.
