Trooper Involved in Fatal Shooting

For Release May 9, 2002:

TALLAHASSEE: At approximately 10:30 a.m. today, Trooper Kreshawn Walker-Vergenz shot and killed a subject on Interstate 10 just east of Tallahassee during a traffic stop.

Details concerning the traffic stop and subsequent shooting are still under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The name of the deceased is not being released until next of kin has been notified

Trooper Walker-Vergenz was a member of the Florida Highway Patrol’s 99th Recruit Class, which graduated on August 17, 2001. She has been assigned to Troop H, Tallahassee, since graduating from the FHP Training Academy. She was released from the Patrol’s Field Training Officer program to solo patrol on December 7, 2001. Walker-Vergenz, age 32, is a 1987 graduate of James S. Rickards High School in Tallahassee.
