L to R: DOS Mike Jenkins, Jacqueline & Bud Selph, and Trooper Brian Speigner loading household gifts.
Duty Officer Amber Pitman sustained very serious injuries in an off duty crash on October 18th, 2005. The crash resulted in her being paralyzed from the chest down. She is currently in the Shepherd Center, a Spinal Cord Injury Facility in Atlanta, Georgia, where she is expected to continue treatment for several more months.
As a member of the Florida Highway Patrol family, Amber’s story has been posted and updated on the FHP Website. Many members of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and other state agencies have contributed generously in the past months for Amber’s immediate financial and emotional support.
An Orlando family also heard of Duty Officer Pitman’s situation. They have a family member, Peggy McNally, who works at FHP General Headquarters in Tallahassee. Peggy helped her sister Jacqueline and husband Etheridge “Bud” Selph contact Duty Officer Supervisor Mike Jenkins at the Tallahassee Regional Communications Center.
Mr. & Mrs. Selph explained they were in a position to donate household items Amber will need when she is released from the Atlanta Hospital. They provided a fully motorized hospital bed, specialty wheelchair that lies down and has multiple attachments including a table. They also provided a portable hyster lift and a complete motorized electric lift to be commercially installed in Amber’s home. These items are valued at approximately $15,000.
This extremely sacrificial and generous gift from the Selph family will make Amber’s Christmas bright and ease the burden of her anticipated future needs at her homecoming.
From the entire DHSMV Family – Thank you very much, Mr. & Mrs. Selph!
Merry Christmas Amber!
Thank You from Colonel Knight
Duty Officer Amber Pitman
