Trooper Information
- The minimum physical requirements for a Law Enforcement Officer (L.E.O.) are as follows:
- Age 19 or above; and
- High school diploma or equivalent and one of the following:
- a. One year sworn or non-sworn law enforcement experience;
- b. Two years of active and continuous military service under honorable conditions;
- c. Two years of public contact experience; or
- d. 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of college credit.
However, preference is given to those applicants who have completed at least 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college course work at an accredited college or university, or those who have at least 2 years of continuous military service with an honorable discharge, or those who possess a current State of Florida sworn law enforcement certification.
Veterans' preference will be given to certain veterans and spouses of veterans as outlined in Florida statutes.
Training: 26 week recruit training with periodic in-service training at FHP Academy. Ten week established Field Training Officer program for all recruits upon graduation.
Retirement: Each member is vested after 6 years of service; however, full benifits are awarded after 25 continuous years of service and is based on 3% per year.
