WELLINGTON -- A Florida Highway Patrol lieutenant died Sunday after falling from the roof of his home in Binks Forest, according to a patrol spokesman.
Lt. Ron Rossow apparently had been cleaning pine needles from his two-story home's roof before he fell through a screened pool enclosure onto his concrete pool deck at about 11 a.m., Lt. Pat Santangelo said.
He was found by his wife when she returned from church with their two sons, ages 12 and 13. She administered CPR until paramedics arrived and concluded it was no use.
Rossow, 52, supervised the day shift for the entire length of Florida's Turnpike and officers throughout the Treasure Coast and Palm Beach and Broward counties.
He had worked with the FHP for 28 years, starting as a trooper patrolling Alligator Alley.
"He used to say that it was 30 miles to the nearest cup of coffee," Santangelo said. "He's one of these people who you were always happy to see."
