Usually Florida Highway Patrol troopers show up at someone's house to deliver bad news about a fatal car crash. But Saturday they brought holiday cheer to 60 Broward County families -- turkeys, hams and all the fixins' for the holidays.
The troopers persuaded three local companies to donate the meals then called families from the Broward County "Project Holiday 2003" list to find those who might need food for the holidays.
Six troopers in dress uniforms spent the morning and early afternoon making the deliveries before returning to road patrol.
"It just feels good to go to a house with a 25-pound turkey in your hands all wrapped up as a Christmas gift and see the smile on their faces," FHP Lt. Bill Ferrell said.
