FHP makes arrest in hit-and-run case

MANATEE COUNTY -- A Bradenton woman remains in the county jail this morning in lieu of $6,000 bail on charges related to a hit-and-run fatality.

The Florida Highway Patrol charged Sandra Lizeth Bojorquez-Molina, 23, 6000 block 10th St. E., with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in a death and tampering with evidence.

At about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Adan Cruz-Ruiz, 29, 1300 block 57th Ave. E., Bradenton, was struck by a vehicle as he walked along the 5700 block of 15th Street East. The driver fled.

Cruz-Ruiz died later at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

FHP troopers found a turn signal lens at the accident scene and determined that the southbound car was a Mitsubishi Montero with damage on its right front.

On Thursday, the FHP received a tip from a car repair shop about a vehicle matching that description.

That night, troopers arrested Bojorquez-Molina and confiscated her maroon sports utility vehicle.

The FHP is still investigating two other hit-and-run cases in Manatee County.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Anthony Smith, 34, 900 block Ninth Ave. E., Palmetto, was ejected from the back of a pickup in a southbound lane of Interstate 75, about five miles north of Palmetto.

He was struck and killed by another southbound vehicle. The FHP has no description of that vehicle.

On Nov. 21, Cindy Hunter, 44, 2300 block 55th Ave. W., Bradenton, was a passenger on a motorcycle that collided with a Chevrolet station wagon on 15th Street East, near 59th Avenue.

Hunter, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle. She died Tuesday at Bayfront Medical Center.
