A man who police said broke into a Florida Highway Patrol trooper's car, stole a shotgun and barricaded himself in a Miami Gardens house was arrested Wednesday after a standoff that lasted hours.
A second man was arrested earlier after a car chase that ended in a crash.
The first man, Bruno Moxey, 19, was charged with occupied burglary and burglary to a vehicle, police said. Christopher Green, 26, was charged with grand theft and burglary to a vehicle.
Miami-Dade police responding to a report of a burglary in progress found two men burglarizing a parked FHP trooper's vehicle at County Line Road and Northwest Seventh Avenue at 2:25 a.m.
A department-issued Remington 870 shotgun and police equipment were stolen from the trunk, FHP spokesman Lt. Roger Reyes said.
The burglary suspects fled but crashed their truck into a parked car at Northwest 164th Street and 27th Avenue, Miami-Dade police spokesman Robert Williams said.
Police took Green into custody, but Moxey ran into Green's nearby home and barricaded himself inside. Occupants told police that Moxey was armed with a shotgun.
A SWAT team shot tear gas into the house. The suspect surrendered about 10:30 a.m. and was arrested.
